Oktoberfest in Argentina: what it cost, the hotel, and what I'd change.
Notes by Ivan Verzoub from the 63rd edition: two nights, a group of seven, and the numbers from the ledger we split.
What did it cost per person?
I went to Argentina's Oktoberfest with six friends and organized the whole trip. The rule we wrote at the top of the ledger: every shared cost is split by seven, mine included.
| What | Per person | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel Molvento2 nights, 2 lakeside apartments | US$ 258 | US$ 1,802.61 for the group, 50% paid upfront, non-refundable |
| Transfersvan from Córdoba airport and back, plus two cars to the festival | ARS 180,000≈ US$ 117 | |
| Festival ticketSunday, general entry | ARS 100,100≈ US$ 65 | each of us bought our own |
| Total per person | ≈ ARS 675,000≈ US$ 440 | without flights, food or drinks |
| A litre of beer at the festival | ARS 16,000≈ US$ 10 | in Munich this year: €14.80 to €15.90 (oktoberfest.de) |
USD at the August rate we paid the hotel deposit with (ARS 1,535 per dollar).
Flights aren't in the table. In August we compared the two ways of getting there: about ARS 500,000 each by car against about ARS 700,000 flying, both estimates at the time. In the end everyone picked their own way to get there, and we only shared the stay and the transfers.
Where did we stay?
At Hotel Molvento, in two apartments by Lago Los Molinos, 15 km from the town. We traded the location for quiet and amenities: a spa, horses, archery and a lake. On Saturday we didn't even leave the hotel.
The plan was a cabin, which looked cheaper and came out more expensive, with fewer bedrooms.
What would I change?
- Book early. We booked six weeks out and the hotel wanted 50% upfront, non-refundable.
- Take your time with the options. The cheap-looking cabin was the expensive one.
- Go on the holiday weekend if you can make it.
- Bring cash, and something warm for the night. Nights dropped to about 7 °C.
- In my opinion, wear the lederhosen.
